Purpose

Our aim is to provide an environment where Christian love surrounds our children as we help them build a Christ-centered foundation. Our desire is for each preschooler to develop a positive self-image, social skills, basic moral and spiritual concepts, and educational skills which will be their foundation for a lifetime of learning and growing.

Program Description

Our philosophy is “Learning through play.” Play is fundamental to children’s learning, growth and development, enabling them to develop and clarify concepts, roles and ideas by testing them through use of open-ended materials and role-enactment. Play helps children develop fine and gross motor skills, learn to share with others, see other points of view and control thoughts and feelings. Ward’s curriculum is a play based curriculum.

A staff of at least one professional per ten children ensures a well-balanced program geared to a child’s individual needs. Children are encouraged to build positive relationship with their teachers and with their classmates. Communication between parents and teachers is ongoing throughout the school year, including parent-teacher conferences and periodic parent seminars.

Special Programs

Handwriting without Tears - Ward Preschool implemented the Handwriting without Tears program in the fall of 2006. This handwriting program is used by many school local districts. Handwriting without Tears is a hands-on program that helps children with letter recognition, writing and other pre-literacy skills.

Motor Skills - This is a gross motor program designed to encourage brain development. Research suggests that gross motor activities aids in the brain development that relates to cognitive development. Each child will have the opportunity to participate on a weekly basis. This program is supervised by trained parent volunteers.
